The INMC at POLIS 2024
The INMC was in Karlsruhe for the major European mobility POLIS 2024 Conference, sustainable mobility being one of our network’s 6 main priority themes. 8 member cities from 4 countries were represented by their mobility experts, some twenty people from Aranda de Duero, Bad Kreuznach, Braga, Clermont-Ferrand, Karlsruhe, Regensburg, Valladolid and Vitoria-Gasteiz. Karlsruhe and Vitoria-Gasteiz are also members of the POLIS network. The INMC covered the cost of admission to the POLIS Conference for its member cities, as well as to the Conference dinner and special event organised by POLIS at ZKM.
The INMC delegation had full access to all the conferences taking place from the morning of the 27th to midday on the 28th, on a wide range of topics: shared mobility, the last mile, data for mobility, intelligent traffic, the development of cycling in cities, etc. These conferences were a prime opportunity to learn more about the various initiatives put in place across the POLIS network (European cities, regions and universities) in terms of sustainable mobility, but also for our INMC experts to go and meet many of the leading professionals in this field, share their experiences, and thus inspire themselves and other cities fully committed to the transition towards future-proof mobility. INMC Mobility Lab
In conjunction with the POLIS Conference, on Wednesday, 27 November from 5pm to 7pm, the INMC organized a mobility lab for its members on the theme of decarbonizing transport. This lab was also accessible by videoconference to INMC members who were unable to attend in Karlsruhe. Prof. Christoph Hupfer, from the Institute of Applied Sciences for Transport and Infrastructure, professor for transport planning and transport technology, and also a lecturer for the Institute for Sustainable Mobility of the Land Baden-Württemberg, introduced the lab.
This lab enabled INMC Member Cities, both in the room and online, to highlight the various policies, regulations and other initiatives in which they are engaged to move towards ever more ambitious transport decarbonization. From this exchange, and thanks to a preliminary analysis of the data provided by the cities, the foundations of a joint project between INMC members committed to sustainable mobility was laid, with a view to a coordinated approach enabling each city to benefit from the community of interest and resources mobilized by the Network.
Conference dinner and special event at ZKM
Following the lab, the INMC delegation took part in the Conference dinner organised by POLIS, which was itself followed by a very special event. The entire evening was held at ZKM, Karlsruhe’s major Center for Art and Media, a cultural institution that is unique in the world. Since it was founded in 1989, ZKM’s mission has been to support the transition of the classical arts into the digital age, bringing together media of all kinds and a wide range of art forms including painting, film, theater, dance, photography and music.
