Valladolid, around 300.000 inhabitants (over 450.000 in the metropolitan area), is the capital city of the Castile and Leon Autonomous Community with 2,560,000 inhabitants in Spain. It’s located in the important economic northwest axis, between Galicia, the Basque Country and Madrid. It is one hour away from Madrid, easily communicated by high-speed train. Furthermore, it is also located along the Helsinki-Lisbon transport hub, which connects Portugal with the rest of Europe.

The industrial-economic fabric of Valladolid is made up by the food industry, car manufacturers and small and medium automotive components businesses, where innovation has been the hallmark of them in our city.

Valladolid also has important cultural and historical assets. It was the capital city of the kingdom of Spain and the house where Cervantes lived can still be visited. Furthermore, the University of Valladolid is one of the oldest universities in Spain.

Valladolid has got an outstanding position and reputation as a smart city, focused particularly in the area of sustainable mobility, aligned with its leading position in the automotive industry, particularly in electro mobility. It also has a series of important projects on energy efficiency and urban regeneration, as demonstrated in its front runner city status in support research and innovation in a successful cycle, where products and services elaborated in Living Labs are developed though a process that is built upon real citizen’s needs. In the immediate future, our aim is to expand into fields like the circular economy, social and cultural innovation and the knowledge society.
