History
The mild climate, world-class healthcare, prominent higher education and variety of cultural opportunities make Anderson an ideal choice for industry, retirees and families. Located on the banks of one of South Carolina’s largest lakes, outdoor and recreational activities are abundant.
Furthermore, Anderson, SC, is known as “The Electric City” since it was the first city in the United States to have a uninterrupted supply of electric power, and the first in the world to create a cotton gin operated by electricity. Anderson-native William Church Whitner was the man who first conceived the idea of generating alternating current electricity using turbulent river water to send power to the city in 1896. This history of innovation reflects Anderson's business environment today. Indeed, it boasts the finest entrepreneurial facilities and programs in the area.
